I Love You
Moonlight sneaks in, through your windows, slides between the blinds, that make it dark
Light dark, light dark, light dark, light dark, all the way, down your skin
How can you be sound asleep already when, just a beat ago we moved, through sparkling paradise
Softly I call you, you answer me slowly, mumble something, rub your eyes
To sleep so soundly with that / Smile on your face / You must feel the way I do / I love you
Morning we wake up as, morning rises in the street, cars and doors and voices, kids on their way to school
Their noises bounce up the buildings, into this bedroom, where we lay still all, tangled up in each other
For some dumb reason, I have to go to work, but you’ve got other plans, you say we’re staying home today
I tell you I can’t and you say “Yes you can!”, I try to argue, you just block the door
To stand there waiting with that / Smile on your face / You must feel the way I do / I love you
Let’s have a we day, just you and me today, we won’t go nowhere, ‘cept maybe the kitchen, hey
Bring back a glass of juice, some of those ginger snaps, a bowl of pudding, never mind the spoon
We don’t need no tv, we don’t need that noise, come read me a story, better yet,
Make one up.
