Spring Return
Farewell to March, a snow-driven lion
An April fools joke from the sky
If Spring don’t come soon I don’t know what I’ll do
This winter’s been long and hard
My love sits beside me, hand on his chin
Holding his head so heavy
I say come lay it here, let the weight disappear
Rest for a while on my shoulder
When will Spring return
Warm this chill inside us
Hope springs eternal poets say
My love and I hold on this way
All white and all grey out the window today
I pray for a glimmer of green
Or just a small ray of sunlight to play
On a trickle of melting stream
My thoughts turn inside where desires reside
Frozen, longing to thaw
My love takes my wrist and my cold fingertips
Brushes them gently upon his lips
When will Spring return
Warm this chill inside us
Hope springs eternal poets say
My love and I hold on this way
The snow bends the branches, we reach for the blanket
To drape us from these drafty walls
And we sink even deeper; we are each other’s keeper
In summers and falls and long winter stalls
