My daughter wanted a tattoo since she was 15, but I always said she had to wait until she was 18. Every year she would ask and every year I would say the same thing. On her 17th birthday she asked again, only this time she said I want the word breathe on my wrist in your handwriting. Why, I asked, my handwriting is horrible. Her answer “Whenever things got bad and I didn’t know what to do you were there holding my hand telling me to breathe.”
