Harvey & Luella

Well they met in the summer of '22
And he was really lookin’ fine
and she was feelin' kinda blue
So Harvey took advantage while they sat in the shade
makin' small talk, and sippin' on lemonade
Yeah he kissed her, right on the lips
and she slapped him, right on the face
Cause you don't do that - to a lady - without askin'

Well Harvey learned his lesson and he made amends
And they wound up being the best of friends
And then one day come right out of the blue
Harvey told Luella "hey I could marry you"
And then he kissed her, right on the lips
And she didn't slap him across the face
Cause you don't do that - when you're in love - forever after

Harvey and Luella
She was his gal and he was her fella
Forever and a day
They're just livin' this life away
Like most folks do

Now Harvey took to farming for his salary
And Luella she stayed home and raised the family
They struggled off and on for most of their life
but Harvey never stopped lovin' his beautiful wife
He always kissed her, right on the lips
And gently stroked her face
And said "I love you" - and he did - for fifty years

Well Harvey passed on back in '74
And Luella she couldn't take care of the farm anymore
So they moved her into town to an old folks home
But there rarely was a time, she was ever alone
Cause he still kissed her, right on the lips
And though she coudn't ever see his face
She knew he was still there - right beside her
he never left her

Harvey and Luella
She was his gal and he was her fella
Forever and a day
She’s just livin' this life away
Like most folks do

Now Luella joined Harvey in the fall of '83
And she left behind quite a living legacy
And as the children thought back on all that they’d had
They remembered all the love
between their mom & dad
And how he used to kiss her - right on the lips
And gently stroke her face
And they knew that he loved her
and she loved him right back - for a lifetime

Harvey and Luella
She was his gal and he was her fella
Forever and a day
They just lived this ol' life away
Like most folks do
