Leavin’ Cheyenne
I ride an old Paint, I lead an old Dan
I’m off to Montana for to throw the hoolihan.
They feed in the coulees, they water in the draw,
Their tails are all matted, their backs are all raw.
Ride around, ride around real slow,
The fiery and the snuffy are rarin’ to go.Goodbye, Old Paint, I’m leavin’ Cheyenne.
Goodbye, Old Paint, I’m leavin’ Cheyenne.
I’m leavin’ Cheyenne for to throw the hoolihan.
Goodbye, Old Paint, I’m leavin’ Cheyenne.
I am up on the saddle, the reins in my hand,
Goodbye, little Annie, my horses won’t stand.
Goodbye, fair lady, someday you’ll understand,
Keep Old Paint in the pasture, be kind to Old Dan.
And when I die, take my saddle from the wall,
Put it on my pony and lead him from the stall.
Tie my bones to his back, turn our faces to the West,
and we’ll ride the prairie that we love the best.
