Paz Del Castillo is one of Spain's premier pianists, playing both classical music and her own compositions. The title of this album of solo piano compositions , Eleven Drops, refers to parts of her personality and to the inspiration that nature and water give her. The album contains eleven tracks, all solo piano, all in a gently contemplative mood that doesn't hide the superior musicianship on display across the album. The track titles are: Latiendo, El Abrozo Del Mar, From The Beginning, Cafe Espana, Improvisacion Sobre Las Aguas Tranquilas, Lost In You, Por Encima De Los Acantilados, Nan Para Luis, Mientras Duermes, Life Goes On, Lo Que Siento. I assume that this album is being marketed as new age, though I think contemporary classical or solo piano is equally applicable. Ms Del Castillo has a deceptively simple style which unravels if you listen carefully to reveal complex melodies and harmonic structures that confirm she is a composer and performer of rare stature.

The latest release from Paz del Castillo features eleven solo piano tracks that reveal the artist to be a dynamic composer and performer and a master of taste and subtlety.

For Castillo, the title of the album conveys the idea that each tune on the album is like an individual drop of water that represents a different aspect of her life, mood, and/or personality. This is absolutely the case because the songs run the gamut of emotions and feelings, from inner peace and calm, to mystery and discovery, to wonder and awe.

The title is also apt in the sense that, although each number is unique and distinct, the album flows from one track to the next with a consistency and effortlessness that result in a unifying whole, like drops of water becoming a steady stream. Castillo's dexterity and creativity engage the listener from beginning to end, making this a satisfying and enlightening experience.

This is another worthy offering that will be appreciated by aficionados of solo piano music.

A pillar of the Spanish piano community, Del Castillo is still in the rare delicacy stage over here despite having a new age session produced by Suzanne Ciani. Expert at the kind of playing that makes it look deceptively simple, her music, inspired by nature and water, is the right in the pocket new age/NAC solo piano music that inspires pretenders to go out and do a bad job. Lovely stuff that any instrumental/solo piano fan will just love. Made of fibers that are delicate but strong, one listen will make you a fan. Well done.

El Auditorio acoge mañana un concierto benéfico de la asociación de afectados
La Asociación de Lúpicos de Asturias organiza por primera vez en sus trece años de historia un concierto benéfico. La pianista Paz del Castillo ofrece mañana en la sala de cámara del auditorio Príncipe Felipe el programa «Secretos del corazón», cuya recaudación íntegra irá destinada a la investigación de la enfermedad del lupus. Nélida Gómez, presidenta de la Asociación de Lúpicos de Asturias, cree que «un concierto es la mejor forma de recaudar fondos para profundizar en nuestra dolencia, ya que hemos perdido el asesoramiento de nuestro inmunólogo y necesitamos continuar con la línea investigadora». Las localidades están a la venta a un precio de diez euros en la taquilla del teatro Campoamor y mañana, día del concierto, se podrán adquirir en las taquillas del propio Auditorio.

El lupus pertenece al grupo de las llamadas enfermedades raras, ya que sólo la padecen 48.000 personas en toda España y consiste en un fallo del sistema autoinmune, que hasta hace unos años no estaba correctamente diagnosticado.

Oriunda de Asturias, pero residente desde siempre en Valladolid, la jóven pianista Paz del Castillo acaba de finalizar la grabación de su cercano primer trabajo discográfico. Se trataría de un simple debut en el mercado profesional, si no fuera por la particularidad de que Paz ha logrado grabar el master de este decisivo primer paso profesional en San Francisco,bajo la producción de la mismísima Suzanne Ciani.
Y es que desde hace varios años, tanto a la artista norteamericana como a la joven Paz les une una afinidad tanto artística como personal, fruto de una visita que la pianista hizo a Suzanne Ciani en sus camerinos, después de asistir a uno de los conciertos pertenecientes a su gira española del año 98. La propia Paz del Castillo confiesa que la une a Suzanne Ciani una admiración artística. Efectivamente, el trabajo que ha realizado,se trata de un ejemplo de la relación que Paz mantiene entre música y panorámicas naturales, ya que Cuevas del mar es el nombre de una pequeña Playa Asturiana cercana a Llanes sobre la que la jóven pianista se ha inspirado para dar forma a los doce temas que recientemente ha grabado.
