Monroeville Takes Smoky Mountains on the Road
"I was determined to carve out a music of my own, I didn't want to copy anybody." - Bill Monroe

"Ditto." - Monroeville

Over the last 8 years, Monroeville has had the honor to play events from Rocky Grass in Colorado to Grey Fox in New York. And, while they are known for original compositions that span a wide array of genres that has garnered them spots on events from Bluegrass to Country to Rock, Monroeville is best known for playing for the millions of visitors per year from all over the world who travel to the Smoky Mountains National Park.

Matt Munsey, leader of Monroeville states, "We've been entertaining crowds who stop through the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area since before there was an official Monroeville. My family is from Newport, TN, in Cocke County on the eastern part of the mountains. That's where our band and offices are based, surrounded by the Pigeon River and home to white water rafting. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to share my home area with the tourists who come through."

And, while Monroeville's music focuses around traditional Bluegrass instrumentation, visitors from all over the world are pleasantly surprised to hear original tunes spanning diverse genres, end up staying for several shows, and then become fans who come back year after year to see Monroeville.

Matt adds, "This July we're going to be out quite a bit. We are excited to celebrate Independence Day on the top of a new venue, Anakeesta in Gatlinburg, playing right up until the fireworks. Then we head out to play the next two days by the ocean in St. Augustine, FL, drive back past our home on to Hamilton, OH to play for a cool Bluegrass event, go back home for a few days, then head back down to play on an ocean pier in Garden City, SC for three days, and then back to our home area again. When we're out, we take a piece of our Smoky Mountains with us, and invite everyone to come back and visit us at our home. There are days we sometimes play for up to 11 hours. The folks who come to our mountains have made us a part of their vacation memories, and we don't take that lightly - we're honored to have that opportunity."

"Our fans are known as 'Citizens of Monroeville', but we are all family here - that's my mountain heritage, and that's what I hope everyone experiences when they come to see Monroeville - no matter where we are."

Monroeville In Schools?
Monroeville is a great fit for students of any age. As the principal of Barboursville Middle School, I try to bring in a variety of entertaining and educational assemblies throughout the year to our student body of nearly 800 in grades 6 – 8.

Monroeville is by far the most outstanding group we have ever had for our students. Not only does their high-energy presentation totally engage the students, they make a connection that goes far beyond simple entertainment.
