Reviews CD Parade des Poules
A delicate walking-on-eggs quality

Dirty Linen, USA
Parade des Poules, (French for "chicken parade") is slightly more than just an arbitrary title. The album begins and ends with the soothing sounds of hens strutting their clucks. The accordion-playing duo responsible for all other sounds on the album consists of Jean-Pierre Guiran (French member of Orkest Polytour and Bubblin' Toorop Trio) and Cherie de Boer, both of them based in Holland. As the duo's previous CD revealed, there is more to the duo's music than initially meets the ear. The music isn't consistently melancolic or gentle, but there is a delicate walking-on-eggs quality to much of it that gradually insinuates itself into the listener. Styles explored include musette, Tex-Mex, lively tarantella dance music, and Scottish reels, and more. Besides a good assortment of original and traditional tunes, the duo also includes the occasional Djangoism, and also performs Carlos Gardel's “Volver” and Sidney Bechet's famous "Petite Fleur. "
