BackPorch Bluegrass is a Wilkes County, NC based group, known throughout the state for their traditional hard-driving bluegrass style. The band was formed in February, 2005 to

 play great music,
 to always be a blessing
 to help others whenever possible

From the traditional songs of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, IIIrd Tyme Out, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, The Lonesome River Band, and Blue Highway to the contemporary flair and artistry of the Kruger Brothers, their influences have one thing in common: GREAT MUSIC! That is what BackPorch Bluegrass has set out to do…Play Great Music!!!

BackPorch Bluegrass is a fan favorite wherever they play – including Bluegrass First Class, Asheville, NC 2012, North Carolina State Fair (2009-2011), Olla Belle Reed Festival 2011 and 2012, Monthly concerts at The Todd General Store 2009-2012, Carolina in the Fall, ChickenFest, MusicFest n Sugar Grove, The Valle Crucis Creekside Bluegrass Festival, Got to be NC Festival, The Hunger and Health Coalition Festival, the Winston Cup Museum, Greensboro CAFE and Happy Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention as well as the opening act for Lou Reid and Carolina in Nov. 2011 as well as many private functions to include weddings, receptions, fraternity parties, private parties and bluegrass gospel concerts.

Since 2005, there have been many versions of BackPorch Bluegrass. David Culler, the leader and founder of the group is the only original member that remains while progressively growing the band to today’s high quality, hard driving and highly sought after NC based band.

Jerry Lankford, Editor of The Record of Wilkes, has noted that “BackPorch Bluegrass is a band that delivers – hot and fast. As for strengths, there are no loose boards on this backporch. Frontman David Culler (vocals/guitar), dishes out a heaping helping of high, lonesome sound with one of the strongest bluegrass voices in the region.” Culler is joined by Bassist turned Dobro player turned now to Banjoist Tony Joines. Tony is in his 4th year with BPBG and a band leader’s best friend, always willing to play or do whatever is necessary. Although they both play every stringed instrument, Wes Tuttle handles the Mandolin/Fiddle duties and brings some lead and tenor harmony to the group while Jim Matthews’ primary role is the upright Bass and some lead and smooth Baritone harmony but is called upon from time to time to play fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Frequently, BackPorch Bluegrass is honored with a special guest, Mr. Jacob Joines, 2011 Galax Fiddlers Convention Dobro champion and fulltime member of the Darrell Webb Band which makes for an incredible show.
