I’ve been a bartender forever it seems
I’ve heard inglorious stories and barstool dreams
Night after night I get dubious advice
From brokers and jokers wearing counterfeit ice
But they’re my clientele and I know damn well
There’s just one question that they all want to hear
To beer or not to beer

It ain’t the deepest of philosophies
Ain’t no dissertation for a Ph.D.
Can’t even get an associate degree
From hanging round here
But at the heart of every woman and man
There’s a question about a bottle or can
To beer or not to beer

I paid a lot of money for a college education
Yet I find myself stuck here in this humble situation
So I guess I’ll make the best it, do an independent study
On this drunk guy sitting right here and his even drunker buddy
If my theory is right their constant question in life
Turns out to be simple and clear
To beer or not to beer
