Colton Wilder
Colton Wilder was a wheel wright’s son
Born way up in Oregon
His dad would teach him everyday
How to true a wheel and how to pray

Now Colton’s dad was sure to say
To true a wheel you work this way
Keep your draw knife close and razor sharp
And work the wood with your soul and heart

Where the redwoods grow so tall and lean
Colton worked and had a dream
Of the day he’d give his heart away
To the girl he met last summer

Winters cold had past away
And springtime came at last one day
And Colton’s heart was far away
With the fair hair girl both night and day

And he’d drift way through out the day
And his heart would cry and pine away
Then his dad would shake his head and say
“Go ahead son, Go ask her.”

With a puzzled look, Colton smiled
At his dad who knew all the while
When a young man’s heart is far away
His work is sure to suffer

He went to fetch the fair haired girl
To Colton she meant all the world
He pledged his vows and took a wife
And in the hills, made a happy life

Now Jason Wilder was wheel wright’s son
Born way up in Oregon
Colton would teach him everyday
How to true a wheel and how to pray.
