Last Summer
I walked down the street where we walked last summer.
Where you took my hand and we strolled side by side
The shadows of the leaves decorated the ground below us…
Under a pale blue sky…
You looked me and told me you were leavin’
Said you had no choice and that you had to go
I just sighed and looked down at the pavement
I didn’t want to know…
Take all the time you need I hear them say
But lately it feels like time’s taking me
And I’m just along for the ride
How will I know when I’m through this pain?
Will I wake up one day and feel whole again?
Will a timer go off and I’ll know this hurting is through?
Oh but all the time I need, will never bring back last summer with you
I drove by the house where you stayed last summer
I knew you were gone, but I went there anyway
I guess I wanted to see that old oak tree
And the front porch steps where we sat together those days
The pictures in my mind are starting to blur
Like the view out my window in a driving rain
Oh I’m trying hard to keep you close,
But with each day I feel you slipping away
Take all the time you need I hear them say
But lately it feels like time’s taking me
And I’m just along for the ride
How will I know when I’m through this pain?
Will I wake up one day and feel whole again?
Will a timer go off and I’ll know this hurting is through?
Oh but all the time I need, will never bring back last summer with you
Oh but all the time I need… will never bring back……. that last summer with you…
