Biography
Songs we never recorded but probably should have—old-school country!
Homespun is Amy Gallatin and Roger Williams’ second--and long-awaited--duet project, the first since 2008’s Something ‘Bout You. Amy Gallatin has been a staple on the acoustic music scene since the release of her Long Way Home in 1998--a collaboration with ace Nashville producer Rich Adler (Iris DeMent, John Hartford, Dolly Parton)--which featured her shimmering, heartfelt vocals and quality song selection. Renowned resophonic guitarist Roger Williams has long been known for his masterful touch on the instrument during his tenure with White Mountain Bluegrass, Salamander Crossing, and the IBMA-award-¬nominated Southern Rail. The two are enhanced by the mandolin wizardry of Roger's son, Berklee College of Music graduate JD Williams, who--in the time-honored tradition of musical consanguinity--complements his father's style perfectly, and by veteran bassist Bob Dick, formerly with the award-winning bluegrass group Front Range, and New England favorite Blackstone Valley Bluegrass.
The album began as a “shutdown project” during COVID, as Amy and Roger looked to continue their musical creativity in the absence of performing opportunities. The project became an occasion for the pair to record songs that, for one reason or another, had not made it onto their previous four albums together, and the relaxed recording schedule gave them the space to explore their musical roots over time. The result is a nod to their musical forebears (that’s Amy’s grandmother on the cover, circa 1920) and to classic country music, the way Roger grew up singing it with his mother.
