Now She's Gone
NOW SHE’S GONE
It seemed somehow to me I kept her happy.
I guess I didn’t feel her slip away.
Suppose she covered up her tears with laughin’.
And all the times she looked I turned away.
But now I can see, I closed my eyes as she reached for me.
And now she’s gone. Now she’s gone.
I see each time I made it through the doorway,
with not the time for the kiss she had for me.
And I still hear myself sayin’ “baby someday,
just you and I that’s how it’s gon’na be.”
But now I can see, I closed my ears as she called to me.
And now she’s gone. Now she’s gone.
The pillow where she laid her head lies ruffled.
The imprint of her body’s still on the bed.
The rubber tree she cared for once was healthy.
But like our love, it’s withered now, it’s dead.
So now I can see, I closed my heart to her love for me.
And now she’s gone. Now she’s gone.
Now she’s gone. Now she’s gone.
