The Guitar Case
"I started singing this song to myself on a particularly dismal trip out to Colorado. the shows were dismal, not the state. I'm sure I'm not alone in this but I seem to have a love/ hate relationship with this business. Every album gets at least one song about that~! We've spend a lot of nights in strange and dim lit places, and we usually get some stickers out of it if nothing else."

Another night in a strange and dim lit place
another sticker for the guitar case
another room looking over the interstate
another hotel mirror, same old face
and what's it matter if the show don't sell?
the money's tight but you might get a story to tell
you hear your own voice saying clear as a bell
you can do it for love or you can go to hell

but can you see that dim light shining?
you better keep on driving
it's been a real long night, you don't wanna know where I've been
but now the sun is climbing
over an empty highway
and it might be a beautiful day

You've got a brand new dress and dirty old boots
if you're trying to impress you've got some work to do
you look good on paper, TV too
but the real thing ain't such a joke to fool
you'd sell your soul just to make a good thing last
don't you know it's only gonna bite you in the ****
and you're gonna regret it, you're used to that
but your heart don't get it, she's stuck in the past
