Gabhaim Molta Bríde (Song)
This song is in praise of St. Brigid of Kildare, whose feast day falls on February 1st, marking the beginning of Spring. It is an ancient pre-Christian festival, Imbolc, celebrating the thawing of the earth after the bleak, dark winter when there’s light and rebirth in the world, bringing hope and joy.

According to our friend, singer and historian, Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, the song was composed in 1902 by Tomás Ó Flannghaile and set to an ancient Gregorian melody entitled “Ave Maris Stella.”
