Towpath Road
He walks down that old towpath road
From where the water must have flowed
Now rocks they crumble and they fall
No more will the barges slowly crawl
One hand clasps his old Martin box
While mist pours out from ancient locks
He saunters down the outcast lane
And sings and picks without his pain
And the moment that you stop
To think about the things
That lie beyond the amber veil of time
Somebody calls your name
You snap out of a dream
You walk the lonely towpath
In the shadows of your mind
Now he’s gone
Far beyond the stars
But closer than a song
he old time world grows obsolete
It’s a path you can’t walk with your feet
Though joy still comes through obscured
It’s freed from an antiquated world
As time flows down the Shawangunk ridge
A man walks slow across the bridge
The towpath road is washed away
And his footprints are freed from out the clay
And the moment that you stop
To think about the things
That lie beyond the amber veil of time
Somebody calls your name
You snap out of a dream
You walk the lonely towpath
In the shadows of your mind
Now he’s gone
Far beyond the stars
But closer than a song
