Somewhere Down the Line
One of my favorite tracks on the album, this one wound up reminding me of the unique place where Tom Waits’ best ballads live. Credit goes to Lincoln and his use of the flugelhorns which add that sense of romantic nostalgia that imbues the song. This is a hard one to explain in a few lines, maybe just to say that it feels like a lament to me, with lyrics addressing the kinds of secrets we keep from even those closest to us.
