Another one from the slush pile of unfinished ideas. This was originally a piano ballad that found new life when it dawned on me how much better it would be with an R&B feel. One of my all-time favorite lyrics is Elvis Costello’s “The Blue Chair” (from Blood and Chocolate), the ultimate love triangle song. This song isn’t exactly that, but with a wise narrator dispensing advice to a friend about a woman, the lyric allows for a nice blending of fiction and autobiography.
