Only Son
How can you say a life’s been wasted
When we’re all only here for a moment
He would have known that people loved him
But it wasn’t enough to save him
And when the nighttime rolls around
And the dreams he might have found
Will carry on inside her heart
And when the darkness sheds it light
Is it enough to know he might
Leave a note or two behind
She weeps with abandon
I’ve lost my only boy, is there a reason to carry on?
A fate so cruel, yet it all seems random
When desperation calls for a mother’s only son
How did two worlds collide at random
As powers succumb to a madness
A soldier arrived from across an ocean
A child was born to a cruel world
And the story that unfolds
where a million could be told
you’re not expected to know
And every morning she awakes
there’s a heart that has to break
To the songs he left behind
She weeps with abandon
I’ve lost my only son, is there a reason to carry on
She sleepwalks through her days now
Regret found in the alleyways
There’s a reminder down every one
Of a fate so cruel, yet it all seems random
When desperation calls for a mother’s only son
