Goodnight Irene
Credited to the great Huddie Ledbetter, aka Leadbelly, this song has been recorded by many artists such as the Weavers in the 50's, Frank Sinatra, Ry Cooder and Eric Clapton. Woody Guthrie used the melody (sometimes performed with a time signature change) for his “Philadelphia Lawyer,” a hit for the Maddox Brothers and Rose. The Country Gazette used it as a warm-up song before gigs.  Billy and Alan recorded it with the casual feel of the last song at a late-night campfire session and then went back and overdubbed the accompanying guitars.
