Biography
a.j. steel
A.J. Steel isn’t new to music. He was in a band for many years but after The Monkey Face finally called it quits the time was right to go solo. The experience taught him the skills he would need for his solo journey. Not one to sit idle A.J. began to write, record and perform like a man on a mission. Since finding his niche, A.J. Steel has begun gathering industry recognition through successes in writing competitions and the ever strong, but subtle, word of mouth. But he is still careful with whom he lets into his inner circle. His music has been played on radio in New York, the U.K. and he recently performed a small show in New York City. He was booked to support Shannon Noll at the Kinross music festival but unfortunately the festival was cancelled.
A.J. Steel is proud to announce his first single, “Slow Down”. The track has been getting national commercial airtime with Triple M’s Radar Radio Unsigned segment (winning the SMS vote 3 nights running, securing 4nights airtime). AJ also secured and on air interview with the host Ugly Phil. He’s been interviewed by Cec and Ben on the FOX/2Day FM Austereo Networks national Australian First segment, who also played Slow Down. It’s been added to the Radar Radio playlist on high rotation, with AJ climbing to number 4 in their Top 5 Artist’s. The track has also been added to the SMA FOXTEL Digital Radio Network with over 1.4million subscribers along with the second track off the Satellites and Cars. Not a bad effort for a one man machine. Slow Down is off his debut EP, “Satellites and Cars”. The significance in this song is simple. Slow down and enjoy the journey. This is a lesson in mindfulness, which A.J. Steel now attempts to practice in his daily life.
This new single has many great qualities. From the lyrics to the melodic runs, it captures the essence of a life being lived. It’s representative of other songs on this EP which are colourful, bursting with life, memorable and a pure joy to listen to. Utilizing more synthesizers in his songs and recently introducing live drums has given rise to a new sound, new inspiration and a new beginning for A.J. Steel. His sound is unmistakably his own. He’s a multi instrumentalist and as you listen to these songs, you begin to realize how different he is from the current musical landscape, but how refreshing it is to find artists that create music that they truly own.
This EP has been released both digitally and physically. You can log onto most i-stores and search A.J. Steel. This one is on my “must buy” list.
