Chokecherry Hill

Chokecherry Hill (music & lyrics by Matt Nakoa & Roman Williams)

I turned the key
Waited for the heat
Wiped the frosted windshield with a hand inside my sleeve
And drove
Slow
Moving down the road

Past the ice cream shop
That’s closed for the season
Past the park
With brightly colored snowsuits interweaving
And away
From a house of fragile frowns
That came to say,
“I’m sorry
It was just her time.”

Time and me
We’ve tried to make our peace
But as with all things planned by G-d
It stays a mystery
Why does it always leave
When it feels like all I need
Is more time?

So I took the morning up to
Chokecherry Hill
‘Cause you came here every Sunday
Till the day you were too frail
And still I’d never seen the view
Instead I stayed away
In the city far too long
Making plans and shaking hands
That didn’t matter after all
And now I’m back
Home
In this town of fragile frowns
I came to say,
I’m sorry
I never made the time

Time and me
We’ve tried to make our peace
But as with all things planned by G-d
It stays a mystery
Why does it always leave
When it feels like all I need
Is more time?

Time and me
We’ve tried to make our peace
But as with all things planned by G-d
It stays a mystery
Why does it always leave
When it feels like all I need?
