Of all the great luck I’ve had in my life
The best was a beautiful child and a wife
We’d listen to music and try to write songs
We’d laugh and we’d dance, we’d all sing along

Now my left knee it hurts and I’m losing my hair
You know how life works, it’s not always fair
Some days we triumph and some days we fall
Some days, life just makes a fool of us all

So how do we write us an ending that matters
When the last chord has sounded and the ashes are scattered

Life goes by quickly and yeah, you can bet
I made plenty decisions I surely regret
Doctors and lawyers and Christians and Jews
We’d all go to heaven if we all got to choose

So tonight before I lay my head down to sleep
I pray to some God my soul he will keep
I’m hoping he values me half what I’m worth
And maybe my heaven is right here on earth
