Biography

World Collision music is just that, a collision of musical influences from all over the world. My influences are way too vast and eclectic to start listing. My name is Shawn Bowen, best known in the "industry" for my former band Neurotica who were fortunate enough to be named by Rolling Stone magazine as "one of the 10 best of Ozzfest 2002". Since Neurotica has disbanded I have been in a few other bands, most notably fronting my own band "ObiShawnKenobi", but also I opened a music store specializing in exotic percussion and stringed instruments and have picked up playing many of the instruments in my store. The result is this new project of mine "World Collision", it is meant to be ethereal, meditative, hypnotic, sexual, and soothing and I think very much succeeds and creates a vibe and soundscape like nothing I've ever heard. This music makes me so grateful to be alive and making music again... the muses are with me!! I am so excited to share these sounds and moods with everyone, and I am already hard at work on the next CD. On this one I play : classical guitar, electric sitar/guitar, traditional sitar, tanpura, harmonium, hammered dulcimer, bass guitar, mandolin, tibetan singing bowls, native american flute, and bamboo saxaphone for colors, and on the percussion side I play: djembe, udu, tabla, frame drum, dumbek, rainstick, indonesian gongs, taiko drums, and djun djuns. I also incorporated some nature samples, the first track "Skywater" has a summer rainstorm , and the last track "Marguerite's bamboo" has the sound of a giant bamboo archway with hundreds of shoots, creaking and clacking together in the wind at 3am while I play a solo on a saxaphone made of bamboo along with them.
