Women of Kelley - Lining Track
Women of Kelley aim to honor and preserve the essence of early Appalachian life and the broader American experience. Their debut single, “Lining Track,” was co-written by the Kelleys and their three-time GRAMMY Award-winning producer, Shannon Sanders. The song draws its inspiration from a deeply resonant conversation around the dinner table, when Shannon suggested watching a vintage film clip of railroad workers. These men relied on perfect rhythm to survive their dangerous work, creating songs and chants that synchronized their labor and helped pass the long hours on the tracks. This is a quintessential American story—one rich with history, resilience, and community—demanding to be told.
Anchored by veteran Bluegrass artist and hit Country songwriter Irene Kelley, Women of Kelley bring a blend of heritage and innovation to their music. Irene has penned hits for artists like Alan Jackson, Little Big Town, and Loretta Lynn. Joining her are daughters Justyna and Sara Jean Kelley, both accomplished recording artists and songwriters in their own right. On this highly anticipated family Bluegrass project, the Kelleys seamlessly weave classic Appalachian themes with contemporary elements and feature some of the finest Bluegrass musicians in the genre.
Listeners can expect signature tight harmonies and a modern twist on traditional Bluegrass that sets Women of Kelley uniquely apart. Much of the music was created during potluck gatherings, where their shared love of storytelling, gardening, and home cooking fueled creativity and collaboration—making this project a true family affair.
