Water's Rising
copyright Julie Zora Kerr (SOCAN/ASCAP)

It seemed like spring would never come, this winter it was cold
but the cool clear rains came fallin' with the disappearing snow

Chorus:
Water's rising
Water's rising
Water's rising
and the rain keeps fallin' down

The grass it turned a shiny green the flowers they did bloom
and all was well around my town no darkness and gloom

Chorus

The sky above would not let up she bowed her head and cried
and the heavy clouds they darkened 'til I felt I'd closed my eyes

Chorus
Repeat chorus

She rained down on the pitiful, and rained down on the poor
and as I cried forgive me water rushed in through my door

Chorus
Repeat chorus

We shoveled and we shoveled and we prayed for it to end
but the sandbags they were broken and that water rushed right in

Chorus
Repeat chorus

Well as I watch my memories go floating down the way
and think of all that's happened on this cold and cloudy day
I guess there ain't no reason and there surely is no rhyme
but I really hope this water just passes by next time

Chorus
Repeat chorus
