Bury Me Beneath The Weeping Willow
Bury me beneath the weeping willow was first archived in 1906 by an English professor at the University of Missouri who joined a club that collected old folk songs. The Carter Family wasn’t the first to record it, but they were the folks that made it popular, releasing it in 1935.
Bury Me Beneath The Weeping Willow
My heart is sad and I’m and weary, for the only one I love
When shall I see her oh no never, till we meet in heaven above
Chorus:
So bury me beneath the willow under the weeping willow tree
So she will know where I am sleeping and perhaps she’ll weep for me
She told me that she dearly loved me
She told me that she dearly loved me, how could I believe it untrue
Until the angels softly whispered, she will prove untrue to you
Chorus:
Tomorrow was our wedding day, oh God oh God where can she be
She’s out a courting with some other and no longer cares for me
Chorus:
