Red Is The Color
This is a song I wrote for my friend Jim Redcloud, descendant of Oliver Redcloud famous Chief of the Lakota Indins. Jim was a War Chief, Tribal lawyer, artist, and brother. His son Nick passed away from flu complications, he was just 30 years old. His son had a dream of a sacred buffalo and Jim created his dream into a skeleton of a buffalo and scrimshawed the 7 rites of the Lakota Indians on the skull and bones. It became a museum piece. Jim says the opening prayer for his son Nick.

Red is the Color
(Prayer spoken in Lakota) by James Redcloud
-Way out in South Dakota, where the Redcloud meets the plains
Saw the sadness on their faces, so much agony and pain

Chorus:
Sometimes I want to fly like an eagle, high above the sky, sun dances in my eyes
Where people can’t be mean, Lord set my spirit free
Red is the color that we bleed
-Take one look in my direction, if you want to see the way I feel
Walk my path of reflection, where the wind blows strong over the hill

Chorus:
Sometimes I want to fly like an eagle, high above the sky, sun dances in my eyes
Where people can’t be mean, Lord set my spirit free
But Red is the color that we bleed

-He had a dream when he was seven, of a sacred buffalo
He no longer walks among us, he’s where the sacred people go
He said Dad you know, sometimes I want to fly like an eagle
High above the sky, sun dances in my eyes
Where people can’t be mean
Lord set my spirit free
But Red is the color that we bleed
Red is the color that we bleed
