This Time Next Year
THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

Lyrics and Music by Wade B. Ward

It started with an empty threat,
We’re gonna bring Osama down
Down, down, like the twin towers fell,
Send him to hell
But we ain’t got him yet.

So then we said we’ll get Saddam,
Invade Iraq, shock and awe
Six years and we did get Saddam,
But all it got us Was another Viet Nam

Wake me up from this nightmare.
Tell me how we got here.
Will we still be in Iraq
This Time, Next Year?

Our Civil Rights are slipping away
It seems that we lose some more every day
Rendition, Habeus Corpus
Take ‘em away to where they are tortured

Congress lets the president do
Anything his masters tell him to.
Smoke some weed, you’ll get crushed with their fist,
Embezzle our pensions and get slapped on the wrist

Wake me up from this nightmare.
This can’t happen here.
Will we have a Bill of Rights
This time – Next Year?

Go ahead and read all my emails,
Listen to me talk on the phone.
Go ahead, investigate yourselves,
I’m sure you won’t find anything wrong.

Voters don’t have any choice
Machines are rigged, we have no voice.
Turned away just for having dark skin,
Only he people in power will win.

Our country’s in a dreadful state
I wonder if it’s not too late.
How can we turn back the tide, finally decide
What the solution is?

Wake me up from this nightmare.
I’ll tell you what I fear.
Will we have Election Day
This time – Next Year?

Go ahead and call me a traitor.
Smear me with your dirty tricks.
Tell the press I don’t support the troops,
Like you did to Valerie Plame and the Dixie Chicks

Wake me up from this nightmare.
One thing isn’t too clear.
Will we have a USA
This time – Next Year?
