Just Like Dorothy
Once upon a time as a little girl
I'd lose myself in a made up world
Far from the black and white of Kansas
I'd see storms coming across the plain
I’d hide away waiting for the rain
To pass us
But the danger is that that place is my anesthesia
It can paint the world as so much greener
Just like Dorothy
Entangled in a field of poppies
Thinking that it's safe to rest awhile
Let me lay among the flowers
And let the drowsiness take me
Please don't wake me
I'm so weary
Of these ruby slippers that don't really work
It's all propaganda I can't unlearn
Now I've bought these shoes that I can't return
Try to cover it up but the colors burn
And there's no place like home
There's no place like home
I'm so far from what I know
Take me home
This dream world doesn't go away with age
It just cloaks itself in different ways
Trying to claim who it can
I've tried the yellow brick road
I've tried tappin’ my toes
I've talked to the wizard, they say he knows
But behind the curtain he's just a man
Once upon a time as a little girl
I'd lose myself in a made up world
Far from the black and white of Kansas
