Losing My Religion (single)
I was taught the straight and narrow way I've walked it my whole life
Married young and had a son and stood fast in the right
Was a hell fire and brimstone preacher down in Collinsville
When the devil came to visit me in the deep Virginia Hills
Standing in the pulpit preaching love and Godly kindness
When the boy fell ill in Blacksburg and the doctors failed to find it
The ladies came with all their love and the deacons prayed in likeness
But to no avail the gates of hell slowly fell upon us
I laid my boy in a 6ft hole and cursed God every moment
As the wife and I said goodbye and longed once more to hold him
I prayed for God to change his mind but he made no provision
Standing in the church graveyard losing my religion
People ask from time to time if I’ve found my redemption
Well I’ll be frank and won’t mince words when saying my conviction
Now I know folks they sure mean well but there’s no use in wishing
I have no guilt for leaving God will I be forgiven
I laid my boy in a 6ft hole and cursed God every moment
As the wife and I said goodbye and longed once more to hold him
I begged for God to change his mind but he made no provision
Standing in the church graveyard losing my religion
