Tall Stands of Timber
Title: Tall Stands of Timber
Songwriter(s): Rick Lang & Theodore Chase DeMille
Deep in the forest in the shadow of the mountains
A boy was always at his father’s side
No taller than a sapling among the mighty evergreens
On his daddy’s shoulders he would ride
A father and his son they lived for every season
In harmony with the oaks and pines
He knew the roots ran deep beneath those hardwood trees
And learned to trust in nature’s wise design.
Tall stands of timber reaching for the sky
Solid as the granite up on the mountainside
No matter where life took him The boy would still remember
Walking with his daddy through those tall stands of timber
His daddy knew the name of every tree in the forest
And taught the boy how each one could be used
A sturdy pine board for their cabin floor
a ol’ white birch to build their own canoe
One day the boy came back to visit the old home place
And hike the trails through the timber stands
His own son on his shoulders he shares his father’s wisdom
And passed along his love for the land
