Biography
Formed in Phoenix, Arizona in the fall of 2005, Try Me
Bicycle is a trio whose quiet, organic music evokes the feeling of
day-tripping, long drives at twilight, and the recollective course of
the vagabond on holiday. The band emerged from the longtime musical
collaboration between singer and guitarist Andy Naylor and bassist Jay
Novak. Working on a core collection of songs composed by Naylor, the
duo was eventually introduced to pianist Jacob Koller, who would
become the band's third core member. Having crafted a strong set list,
the three debuted at Phoenix's Paisley Violin and began performing at
various downtown venues. Their graceful songs soon attracted the
attention of musician and producer Michael Krassner, whose own music
and production with Simon Joyner, Patrick Park, and Califone, made him
a perfect fit for the muted, moon-soaked music of Try Me Bicycle. In
the fall of 2006, the band holed up at legendary Capitol Studios in
Hollywood to record their debut album, "Voicings". With Krassner at
the dials, further support was drawn from Laraine Kaizer (Violin), Wil
Hendricks (Guitars, Bass), and Gerald Dowd (Drums) to add fuel to the
trio's dynamic quality. The twelve songs on "Voicings" are hushed,
nocturnal, dreamlike. The stories they tell evoke memories both happy
and sad, full of commonplace things whose very everydayness is
transformed by Naylor and Novak's whispered vocals and the trio's
shimmering melodies. Not content with just releasing an album, Try Me
Bicycle's vision is ambitious. Already hard at work on new material,
Try Me Bicycle plans to grow its fan base and spread the buzz by
venturing outside Phoenix on a west coast tour soon. Their debut
album, "Voicings," is available online through iTunes, Napster,
Digstation, payplay fm, SNOCAP, and at their website
