Lonesome Pine
Lonesome Pine

When I left my home, Lord I travelled many miles.
Running from from my only love, never seen a sweeter smile.
I was searching for the silver, but I overlooked the gold.
Now I’m staring at my future, dying lonely and old.

Lonesome pine ease my mind.
Soothe my soul today.
Show me what I left behind.
Take me home Lonesome pine.

When I came down to the city, I looked but in vain.
I found no greener pastures. Only heartaches sowed in pain.
I left her crying at the altar. It would have been our wedding day.
In my hand I hold the ring, to a heart I threw away.

Lonesome pine ease my mind.
Soothe my soul today.
Show me what I left behind.
Take me home Lonesome pine.

Now I’m standing in the churchyard, Lord it’s been so many years.
Those same bells ringing, as my eyes fill with tears.
Her name I’ll never change, and her heart I’ll never own.
As I place that golden band on a name carved in stone.

Lonesome pine ease my mind.
Soothe my soul today.
Show me what I left behind.
Take me home Lonesome pine.
