When we left New Orleans after 3 years of being street performers in the French Quarter we went out to tour in the United States, Canada, and Europe fulltime on the road for 3 years. Toward the end of our grand adventure, we became weary being on the road. We were longing for a place to plant roots and grow things, including ourselves.
One of our favorite ways to be informed and entertained on the road was listening to NPR. The day we heard Mara Liasson sharing the inspiring story of H.H. Doolittle and his simplistic and idealistic life as a cherry farmer, we knew we needed to write a song that captured what we were longing for so deeply. After 3 years on the road, we were craving that same idealistic life of simplicity of living in nature and homesteading. We wanted to write a song about that while simultaneously tell the story of H.H. Doolittle’s inspiring existence.
