The story of the song is basically the title, "It Happens". You decide to take a vacation with your family and the whole time you are there it rains. You can't do anything outside, so you end up having a terrible time.
You end up getting up late for work and everything goes wrong. You spill coffee on yourself, and then to top it off you get pulled over for speeding.
