Biography
Tony "Gad" Williams began his career in his teens as a rapper in his native southern California. Upon being exposed to Jamaican sound systems through the Twelve Tribes Of Israel organization, his focus and passion shifted towards reggae. Naturally gifted in English Literature and poetry, he realized that he was a talented song writer, and has since penned over 40 original songs. His lyrical perfomances gained international appeal and he was soon performing with various sound systems in Jamaica, New York and New Zealand. After singing for a number of years with the Twelve Tribes Of Israel Band, Williams formed his own band, Rimshot, in November 1999.
Selected from an array of international recording artists to perform on Orthodox Muzik Showcase Tour in 2003, Williams pursued his career outside of Rimshot. His performances in Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados were met with positive public response by audiences well-seasoned in quality regge music. He was backed by an all-star band consisting of Albert Malawi and Cornell Marshal (Third World) on drums and percussion, Packo Simeon on bass, Steely Johnson (Stelly and Clevie) on keyboards, Egbert Evans on sax, and his mentor, the legendary, Sangie Davis on guitar. Distinguished regge greats like Ken Boothe, Fred Locks and Jahmel headlined the tour. Williams also performed with the renowned Jah Love Muzik Sound System in Kingston, JA in 2003.
Williams has shared the stage with such prominent and influential performers as Half Pint, Fred Locks, Norris Man and Yami Bolo. No stranger to big shows and even bigger names, he appeared in a special fundraiser in Nazareth, Ethiopia with Rita Marley and Bob Andy in 2005. Most recently in 2006, Williams was interviewed by Rohan Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley, for his musical television show pilot, as a crucial artist to be on the lookout for. Williams sings to praise Jah and is very serious about delivering a conscious, spiritual, message through his powerful music.
