I was surfing the internet and happened on the funny story of Lulu the Nashville border collie who inherited a fortune. Bill Dorris had a business making walk-in bathtubs, and was a friend of Jack Kershaw who actually used to live in my neighborhood. Kershaw was a lawyer who defended the assassin James Earl Ray and he also made fiberglass sculptures, including one of early KKK leader Nathan Bedford Forrest. Dorris gave Kershaw some fiberglass from his factory and the statue wound up displayed beside I-65 on land that Dorris owned. When Dorris died he had no heirs, so he left his estate to his dog. The first reports were that he left her three million dollars, but after a while the amount came down to more like three hundred thousand. A woman friend of Dorris is taking care of the dog. The statue was candy colored and kinda cartoonish, and it was quite controversial as you can imagine. Thankfully Bill Dorris left the land and the statue to the Battle of Nashville foundation, and they took it down and stored it somewhere out of sight. For now.
