The guy in “Stuck in the Middle” is taken by surprise when his girl leaves him. This is one of those funny country lyrics that aren't so funny when you think about it. He's trying to hide his sorrow with humor, but it all comes out. She split without his knowing, he had no prior warning, and he jokes that she's already forgave him for whatever he did, but in the end he admits that he's down and that he's been drinking away his troubles. I wrote another song with Shawn Camp years ago. It's called "How Come I Ain't Dead" and it has a similar humor to it.
