East Kentucky Blues
Pretty girls have turned to mothers In those East Kentucky hills
Another day, another doctor
Trying to score another pill

Now the old folks they’re all saying Get out while you still can choose
Say goodbye to these old mountains And the East Kentucky Blues

One young man went to the city
Came back home to teach in school Willing to fight an uphill battle
To do the best that he can do

I’ve been thinking bout another Who’s got nothing else to lose
But ride around with a loaded shotgun And the East Kentucky Blues

Broke down car, broken homestead Trailer park down some old street
Trying to be saved in God’s own Country
Broken souls in dire need

Sometimes I think bout going back there But I don’t know what I would do
I guess that I’ve been gone too long now With the East Kentucky Blues

Now the old folks they’re all saying Get out while you still can choose
Say goodbye to these old mountains And the East Kentucky Blues
