Go ahead, buy her a drink if you think there’s a chance
And maybe after she’s had one or two, she’ll give you a dance
Right now you can’t see there’s an old memory standing guard
At the foot of the fortress she built when someone broke her heart

Once you hit the wall she’ll run straight from your arms
That old memory will only let her go so far
Other men have tried tearing it down, but it just won’t fall
You can only hold her for so long till you hit the wall

She hides it so well, that invisible line of defense
Protecting what’s left of her heart from breaking again
She’ll let you get just close enough to think you might break through
And then leave you alone wondering what you just ran into
