Platform Four

I’ve always been a fan of slinky mandolin tunes written by Jesse Brock and Ricky Skaggs. I wanted to write a tune like this, however, I’m an atrocious mandolin player. The next best thing? Slinky clawhammer banjo tune! There’s a lot of left hand tricks in this tune that aren’t a part of the usual clawhammer vocabulary as an attempt to make it sound as “mandolin”-y as possible. I wish the title had special significance, but in reality it came from a tireless day of driving which can lead to weird inside jokes. Sometimes those jokes become joke tune names, and this time, it stuck.
