Rambler's Return
The sun sinks low on the mountain
The day is almost gone
Dark shadows rage all around me
I’m on my long journey home

I left my darlin on the mountain
I swore I’d return to her with fame
But as I return to my homestead
I’ve not a penny to my name

I’ve slaved away in the coal mines
I’ve sawed the timber in this land
I’ve stood beside the fiery furnace
I’ve shoveled in the filthy sand

The night blow rages all around me
Along the road that leads up to my home
Oh how I long to see my darlin
The one I left standing all alone

An empty home is all that’s waitin
The one I love is long gone away
When I die, just lay me on the hillside
Let me rest there til the judgement day
