The Turntable
When I came in from work, I needed some time
To clear my head and get away for awhile
I started looking thru pictures then low and behold
I found the one that took me away

A little boy on Paw’s knee, we were looking at records
When he picked up an old 45
Said little buddy just listen, as he set down the needle
Then the music put a chill down my spine

Ole Bill started singing my sweet blue eyed darlin
Don and Red played the charlotte breakdown
I heard the Stanleys a singing how the fields had turned brown
Bob and Sonny at the first fall of snow
Earl’s banjer a ringing, Jim and Jesse a-singing
On the turntable Paw gave to me

Now the years have passed swiftly, my paw is long gone
But his music still lives deep in me
His eyes shine brightly in my little boy
And today I heard him calling my name

He said ‘Dad, what’s this’ pointing to the turntable
That I had saved for such a long time
I said son, just listen as I set down the needle
His smile put a chill down my spine

Ole Bill started singing my sweet blue eyed darlin
Don and Red played the charlotte breakdown
I heard the Stanleys a singing how the fields had turned brown
Bob and Sonny at the first fall of snow
Earl’s banjer a ringing, Jim and Jesse a-singing
On the turntable Paw gave to me
