TERRELL & DAHROUGE

VINTAGE SOUL 1968 - 73

The Manhattans/Give Him Up Deluxe Records

In early 1970 George Kerr produced four songs with the Manhattans at Broadway Recording with Richard Tee arranging. Give him up was the last song recorded by all the original members of the group. Smitty, the lead singer, passed away a few months later.

Melvin Hicks and The Versatiles/I’m Just Passing Time ACE Records UK

This is another song Ray and I wrote and co-produced in 1969 with Tony Bongiovi and Tony Camillo. The record was never released back in the day. I digitized and re-mastered the recording from an acetate disk that laid dormant for 50 years. Ace/Kent Records in the U.K. included it in their recently released "Lowrider Soul" compilation. Big fun!

Debbie Taylor/Never Gonna Let Him Know GWP Records

This was the first hit song for us in early 1969. It was a marvelous session at The Hit Factory with Jerry Ragavoy engineering. George Kerr produced and sang background with J.R Bailey and Sammy Turner. The record reached #4 on the Record World R&B chart and we were off to the races as soul music writers.

The Persians/Detour Grapevine Records

We wrote this song for the Persians and co-produced the record with Ed Bland who also provided the arrangement. A great session at RCA studios with an amazing rhythm section. The record made it to the top 30 on the Billboard R&B charts in late 1969.

Darryl Stewart/Name It and Claim It Wand Records

Ray, Ebbie Woolley and I wrote this song in 1969. The first of a few records we co-produced with Tony Bongiovi and Tony Camillo at The Record Plant. Marvelous sessions with great musicians and an awesome arrangement by Tony Camillo. The record is still a Northern Soul classic in the U.K. after all these years.

The Moments/Gotta Find A Way Stang Records

This record was a top 10 hit on the R&B chart in Billboard and made it to #1 in the U.K. The song was also recorded by The Hesitations on GWP but wasn’t released until it came out on a compilation on ACE Records in the U.K. George Kerr produced with Bert Keyes providing the arrangement in 1973.

Vivian Copeland/He Knows My Key (is always in the mailbox) D’ORO Records

Another classic George Kerr production with a Richard Tee arrangement. The song was also recorded by Barbara Jean English and Susan Phillips. Still being played in the U.K. and other territories in Europe.

Street People/Gotta Get Back With You Baby Vigor Records

This Terrell & Dahrouge song was produced by Ray at the Hit Factory with a hot Charlie Calello arrangement in 1976 during the heyday of the disco craze. It was an album cut but certainly worthy of being a single release.

Timothy Wilson/Are You Really Happy Blue Rock/Mercury Records

We wrote this song in the winter of 1969. George Kerr produced the record and Timothy did an amazing job. Ed Bland provided the arrangement. George, Sammy Turner and J.R. Bailey sang background. Super session at Mercury Records studio. The record came out in early 1970.

Debbie Taylor/Stop Grapevine Records

We wrote and co-produced this record with Ed Bland for Grapevine Records in 1969. Debbie delivered an amazing performance on this upbeat track with an arrangement by Ed Bland. Terrell and Dahrouge were moving along very well but the record company, GWP/Grapevine, couldn’t quite make it well enough to continue by 1971.
