Paula Boggs Band - King Brewster

King Brewster: Grammy-winning folk artist and historian Dom Flemons sings co-lead on the Janus album studio version of King Brewster, a true telling of Paula’s ancestor’s journey from bondage to freedom. Paula’s ukulele plays a series of minor diminished chords lending a sense of darkness, trouble, and uncertainty to the song. In this live performance, Darren Loucas plays lap steel while also lending co-lead vocals that evoke Appalachia. The last chord of the song, sung in discordant three-part harmony, is designed to leave the listener uneasy. Audiences are often unsure if the song has ended and whether it’s ok to clap.
