Susan Graham Pepper - O’Shaughnessy’s Lament
8. O’Shaughnessy’s Lament: voice alone. This is a contemporary song composed by the acclaimed Canadian troubadour Aengus Finnan based on the tragic story of a silver miner in Ontario who lost his wife and infant twins during childbirth. I don’t think it’s possible to write a “traditional” ballad (which requires the passage of a song through time and generations of voices) but “O’Shaughnessy’s Lament” comes pretty close.
