The Door
In the final hours
I came and sat with her
We’d said all that we had to say
So we didn’t say a word
The time had come for letting go
But she was hanging on
Cause even when the body’s weak
The will can still be strong
I didn’t understand what she was waiting for
But I now I know that she was looking for the door
Details had been slipping
Til it was a daily thing
Getting lost and losing keys
A misplaced wedding ring
Over time she didn’t
Call me by my name
She thought I was my brother
But to her it was the same
I didn’t understand what she was waiting for
But she sat for hours only look at the door
A lit a couple candles
Turned off the neon light
And in the early dawn
Where morning meets the dark of night
The hand reached out to guide her
That she’d been hoping for
And in a peaceful moment
She had finally found the door
It took some time to see what she was waiting for
But now I know she was looking for the door
