SPECIAL ED
Songwriter: Mike Dunbar ASCAP

Ed was special, he had a gift
He could see through people's masks
It wasn't magic, Ed was just quiet
And folks forgot him as they went about their tasks
They'd say,
“Ed, pick up your feet while I sweep”
“Ed, it's time to go to sleep”
“Eddy, here's your medicine
And don't forget to eat”
Marge was angry without a cause
She'd hurt the ones who tried to help
And she said Ed was a loony
But Ed was really just a whole lot like herself
She'd say,
“I'd like to slap that silly smile”
“Ed, stop staring at me for a while”
“Eddy, you're a grown man
But you act just like a child”
Monday morning, Marge looked around
And saw that Ed was late for prayers
Alone at breakfast, her anger cooled
And she cried when the orderlies went running up the stairs
She said,
“Ed, are you coming down?”
“Ed, will you ever come around?”
Marge bit her lip and never made another sound
'Cause Ed was special
